Thing 12

This looked like quite a quick one to tick off - found instructions on how to read Library of Congress and pasted the link in my blog...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4djuA5ZfOWE

...but when I publish it stays as a link, am I doing something wrong...need to find out how I get it to show the image???

Thank you Jane for your advice - I've now found the embeded html code to copy into my blog, so you tube screen shows up in my blog...yipee!

Now I know how to do this it's quite quick, but the problem is it's taking me ages to discover all of this and I had to do it several times to get the screen smaller so it fitted better on my blog post.

On on...

at bodleian

Not technically a 23thing but a vaguely related IT thing! Something must be wrong this went far too smoothly :-) fingers crossed it all works when I check my email account at work tomorrow morning to verify new bodleian email...

Clarendon Building Picknik'd

Picknik'd a photo today! Taken on my mobile on the way to work!

Had great fun playing around with Picknik which I was relieved to discover was easy to use.

Did the additional Picasa on my home pc, but a bit freaked out by the photos it's already put under my name that I thought were only on my desktop - how did they get these, who else can see them?? Oh well on on...

Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita)

Sill trying to work out flickr. When I searched for an aurelia jellyfish in creative commons it didn't have any, but I followed a link to yahoo images and found loads there. The image has a blog option so I'm assuming I can use it!? I'm also wondering if the text info with this image is going to copy across to my blog as well or not...

This is the first in my series of Aurelia things, which I'm hoping will help me practice setting up different folders of topics in my blog later on.

Flickr has so much to offer, will have to explore further when I have more time. I've joined the 23 things group and put a couple of photos on there. Took a bit of a while to work out the different permissions and what you can and can't do. Have set up Flickr with yet another username - I guess it's just my age, but I'm quite nervous about going public with my real name!

Lost My Way

Just lost my way for a few days there...

Just read 'teach yourself blogging' which didn't really teach me much appart from saying that you should really post something everyday to keep your followers interested....the pressure! So here I am. I got a bit put off with flickr, I was all ready to post some photos but got worried I might be the wrong side of copyright...anyone got any tips, is it obvious, can I use any from creative commons??

Addicted

I'm now getting addicted to this blog thing! Exploring all the links, like blogger dashboard which took me to google reader which looks like it can organise all the blogs I'm following, all two of them! This will be resolved when I do my RSS feeds Thing. It's a whole new world!

Been trying to think of a theme and found some interesting things about my middle name, so that might keep me busy for a series of posts. But how do I know if anyone reads this? Do people write blogs for themselves or for the reader? Is it a diary? Is it a scrapbook? Will everyone have a blog like everyone has a mobile phone? So many questions...but in the meantime seeing what other people do is really useful for ideas.

Shiny New Blog

For Thing 4 I have registered my blog and it's now showing on the side bar along with all the others. I've had a look at people's blogs and made comments and replied to comments that people have made on my blog. I'm also following someone, but need to find a picture to load into this before I follow more. I wonder if I add a picture when I follow someone, will it automatically update my blank image on the one I am already following??? All will be revealed when I try this out soon!
As you can see I've changed the text for this post which is now in the theme of the SSL.

Delicious Word Clouds

Have just found this cool site which lets you create your own word cloud. It offers never ending layouts at the click of a button which is quite addictive!

Wordle: 23 Things

It's also a good exercise for me in linking to a website on my blog, because images of wordles are licensed and you have to quote http://www.wordle.net/ if you use an image you've created, and makes it easy for anyone to find!

I found it by investigating Delicious which is week 5, and was just having a look at lists of blogs and Web 2.0 and found Wordle. I can't wait to get all my favourites organised at home.

When I first used wordle I thought I had to cut and paste it into paint, but if you publish it, and add the code that wordle provide, it loads it straight onto blog posts. Love it!

exploring i-google

Here's a screen shot of my i-google page with cats eyes. Had great fun choosing gadgets and updating the time and location for weather.

Am still trying to find out how to reply to a chat invite...will try and get that sorted soon. Must also check out other internet explorers or browsers such as firefox, safari and opera.

A blog is born!

OK so now I am following the instructions and am entering my Thing 3...

  • My hopes for the 23 Things programme are to become confident in all things web 2.0.
  • I'm participating because it looks fun and a great chance to get step by step guidance.
  • I have already found that I am getting to work with colleagues I don't usually see day to day and encourage each other.
  • I hope we'll stay in touch more because of it as well as find new ways to learn and communicate.
  • From what I've seen from other people's blogs there's so much one can do...it's limitless.
When I finish the programme I will look back to these early blogs and hopefully see how much I've learnt!

Colour

This evening I have been checking out all the formatting tools, and in particular changing the colour of my blog.

Catching Up

Well, better late than never. Having just had a quick look at some of the blogs that are already going for 23 things, I obviously have some catching up to do. Who is 'E' I wonder? Maybe I should have been anonymous?! I haven't had a chance to do this at work, so sent it to my personal email to do at home. So far I have lots of questions and don't know how to do anything, but thanks to the 23 things team I'm confident we'll all be web 2.0 wizzes soon!
